Fishing during the summer is a fun time, and if you own a water loving dog, taking them out on the boat can also be a great experience. There are a few things that you have to make sure you are taking into consideration before you get them out on the water. The bugs are going to get pretty bad, simply because of the odors that dogs put out when they get wet. Also, you are going to want to make sure you have towels in the vehicle for them to lay on, for the car ride home. You are also going to need to make sure you have something to protect your pooch from fleas if you plan to let them roam the woods.
Taking your pet out on the water can be a risky business, but as long as you keep a safety vest, or life vest on them, you are going to be safe in case of an accident or collision. With that being said though, the bugs are still going to eat you alive whether you wear your life vest or not, and they don’t really care once your dog becomes wet and starts smelling funny. These bugs usually leave once you get the boat moving again though.
Keeping some spare towels in the car is another thing you want to think about. Your dog isn’t going to dry off that easily, and making sure that they don’t destroy your car at the same time is going to be key to taking them out for future expeditions.
As for the bugs again, if you plan to let your pooch roam the woods while you’re taking a break from fishing, you are going to want to give them a flea and tick bath when you arrive back at the house. Taking care of this when you get home is the best bet for getting rid of these parasites before they have a chance to invade. When your fishing trip is done with, the last thing you want to have to do is flea bomb your house because you didn’t get a handle on the bugs before they got out of control.
