Most of the time, the most experienced fishermen prefer to use artificial lures in order to catch their Bass. There is such a wide variety of lures available, they come in all different shapes and sizes, colors and patterns. The basis behind Bass fishing lures, and indeed fishing lures for catching other breeds of fish, is that the lure will imitate the natural prey of the Bass. One point to make here, catching bass is not just about using the correct bass fishing lure, you also have to have good technique, without this you are wasting your time. Presentation and location are everything.

Bass Fishing lures are generally classified by the depth that they are used. For instance, lures that work best on top of the water include hair bugs and surface bugs. For top water, the best bass fishing lures are poppers and chuggers. These are used by working the lure across the top of the water, normally in shallow waters, where the Bass will attack with speed and sudden violence. Mid water lures are designed for suspended Bass. These mid water lures include spinner bates, spoons, and minnow plugs. Spoons at the most versatile of all the lures because they can be used at almost any depth and any retrieval speed. One of my favorites is the crank bait lure. You will probably catch more fish with this lure than any other.

One of the most popular fish to catch these days is the largemouth bass and a good supply of largemouth bass fishing lures will help you to increase your catch rate. Two of the best lures for this fish are buzz baits, surface plugs, and poppers for top fishing… that is fishing in water that is less than 5 feet in depth, around brush or weed beds. Largemouth bass will come out of nowhere to attack these lures, especially the buzz baits, which makes them great fun to use. The most productive of the crank baits is one called the rebel crawfish. You should bring plenty of these with you because they will get the job done. Jigging spoons, used primarily for bottom fishing, can also be dressed with some form of bait … a worm, some crab meat, a bit of pork etc. The technique here is to just barely bounce it along the bottom as you retrieve. Whatever lure you choose, keep your technique strong and you will catch plenty of bass.

You will be spoilt for choice when you visit your local Fishing store trying to choose which Bass Fishing lures you are going to buy. The selection in most of these stores can be overwhelming to the uninitiated. They come in every color, shape, and variation. Each water condition has its own specific type of lure, including lures for murky water or clearwater, and others for post-spawn or pre-spawn. You could spend hours trying to decide which bass fishing lure is going to be correct for your particular trip, and even more time can be wasted by the side of the river bank or in the “hired by the hour” boat, floating in the middle of a lake, trying to figure out which of the many purchases is going to be the best.

You need a bit of inside knowledge, the low-down on which fishing lures for bass are the real favourites for experienced bass fishermen. First of all, you need to know a little bit about what makes the bass tick. He is a voracious feeder, eating anything that moves so long as he can fit it into his big mouth. It is with this in mind that your choice of lures will be made.

So, what is the best bass fishing lure? The first one I would recommend is a crankbait lure called a rattletrap lure. This lure, like all crankbaits, mimics the action of a small fish as it swims. It gets its name from the rattling noise it makes as it is quickly retrieved. It was invented in the 1960’s. It is one of the most widely used and most popular hardbait. Another is the spinnerbait which is a very versatile lure. It consists of metal blades which are shaped in such a way that they spin like a propeller as the lure is drawn through the water. It actually mimics a small fish, creating sparkles and vibrations as it is quickly drawn in.

The largemouth bass is probably one of the preferred fish to catch. This is because of its general large size and acrobatic fight that this fish will put on to try and escape the hook. Largemouth bass fishing lures come in a wide variety of types, colors, patterns, and sizes. If you are fishing mid water you will need something like a spinner bait, a crank bait, or a minnow bait. Sometimes wet flies are used for great results.
